Decolure Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

Decolure is committed to making decolure.com usable by the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We are working to conform our website to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, and switch devices.

Why WCAG 2.1 Level AA

We chose WCAG 2.1 Level AA as our target standard for three reasons:

  • It is the standard most commonly referenced in U.S. accessibility law and litigation, including settlements under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • It is the baseline used by the U.S. Department of Justice in recent ADA web accessibility guidance, and it is the standard adopted by most other major retailers.
  • Level AA covers the success criteria that most directly affect real users with disabilities (contrast, keyboard access, form labels, alternative text, focus visibility) without imposing the more specialized requirements of Level AAA.

WCAG 2.1 is also forward-compatible: a site that meets 2.1 Level AA today is in a strong position when the legally referenced version updates to WCAG 2.2 or later.

Current status

We perform regular accessibility audits of decolure.com and address findings in priority order. As of the date above, the following items are in active remediation:

Area

Status

Notes

Heading structure

In remediation

Resolving duplicate or missing top-level headings on product, collection, cart, and informational pages so that screen readers can announce page structure correctly.

Image alternative text

In remediation

Reviewing image alt attributes across product pages and editorial content so that meaningful images have descriptive text and decorative images are correctly marked as decorative.

Interactive controls

In remediation

Replacing non-semantic interactive elements with native buttons where appropriate, and ensuring keyboard focus order and visible focus indicators across the site.

Forms and labels

In remediation

Verifying that every form input on cart, checkout, contact, and newsletter forms has a programmatically associated label.

Color contrast

Ongoing

Reviewing text and interactive-element contrast against background to meet 4.5:1 (normal text) and 3:1 (large text and UI components).

Third-party content

Best effort

Some content on decolure.com is delivered by third-party providers (reviews, chat, payment widgets). We work with these providers to surface accessibility issues and prioritize replacements where alternatives exist.

How we test

Our accessibility testing combines:

  • Automated scans (axe-core / Lighthouse) run during each major site change.
  • Manual keyboard testing for every key user flow: browse, add to cart, checkout, account, search, and customer support.
  • Manual screen reader testing on the most-visited templates using VoiceOver (macOS, iOS) and NVDA (Windows).
  • Color-contrast verification of templates and recurring components.

Automated tools catch only a portion of accessibility issues, so manual review remains essential.

Known limitations

We are transparent about where we have not yet reached our WCAG 2.1 AA target:

  • Some legacy product photography lacks descriptive alternative text; we are rewriting these in priority order.
  • Certain third-party widgets (live chat, reviews, payment selectors) do not yet meet our internal accessibility threshold; we are working with vendors and evaluating replacements.
  • Some informational pages are missing top-level headings; remediation is in progress.

If you discover an issue that is not listed here, we want to hear about it. See "Contact us" below.

A note on accessibility overlays

Decolure does not use third-party accessibility overlay widgets (sometimes marketed as one-line scripts that "make a site WCAG compliant"). We have chosen this approach because independent accessibility experts, disability advocacy groups, and U.S. plaintiff law firms have all reported that overlays often do not fix the underlying accessibility issues they claim to address, and in some cases they introduce new barriers for users of assistive technology. We prefer to remediate the site itself so that screen readers, keyboard users, and other assistive technology can work with the page as it is delivered.
